Best and most suspenseful scene in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011).
It’s almost Hitchcock-like. Benedict Cumberbatch is sublime in this scene, you can almost smell his cold sweat and hear his heart beat. He plays a man who plays a role most of the movie, and so his acting has to be multilayerd the whole time, and in this scene Cumberbatch manages to bring together all the layers: the womanizer, the latent gay, the cool spy, the nervous wreck, the loyal ally… expressed solely through some glances and his body language, because the (spare) dialogue is just superficial jabbering.
It’s just fantastic.
Jack Dawson: I figure life’s a gift and I don’t intend on wasting it. You don’t know what hand you’re gonna get dealt next. You learn to take life as it comes at you… to make each day count.
